Rishikesh, India : Nov. 19 – Dec. 1, 2018

In the quiet, predawn air in the lush, green hills above Rishikesh, you’re breathing deeply and fully, reveling in each footstep. You’re delighting in your own personal pilgrimage toward the fabled Vashisht Gufa Cave. Just hours ago, you wondered why anyone would want to meditate in a place like this. But now, as you approach the cavern itself, you sense the sacred energies here—not only of this mystical place but also of the thousands of seekers who have come here before, including the famous Saint Vasistha for whom it is named.

Inside the cave, you settle in and close your eyes, allowing yourself to relax and surrender to the powerful influences that pull you deeper. Deeper into the cave. Deeper into life. Deeper into the truth of who you are.

After an hour of meditation, you open your eyes and gaze up at your surroundings. Everything appears richer and fuller now, more vibrant and alive. You see everything with fresh eyes. You feel more balanced and peaceful, more happy and whole.

On the way back to the retreat center, you stroll calmly and peacefully down to the banks of the holy Ganges. There you sit, quietly savoring a cup of sweet chai tea as you watch the ancient river flow on. Now you know why someone would want to meditate in a cave. Now it’s crystal clear why you needed to come on this retreat: almost without your realizing it, the rich soils of ancient India have reshaped your thinking and changed your entire world.

Have you been thinking…

Known as Mayapuri in the ancient days, it has been a sacred place of pilgrimage from time immemorial. Haridwar is one of the four pilgrim center where Kumbh is held every twelfth year and is also home to numerous Ashrams and Dharamshalas and we will visit some. November 23, 2017

statueMountainsAfter breakfast and some more sight seeing around the town of Haridwar, we continue our journey with a one hour drive to Rishikesh the “City of the Divine.” Rishikesh is a deep cultural center that has been attracting pilgrims for thousands of years.

Upon arrival we will check into the stunning Ganga Kinare Riverside Botique Hotel With the holy waters of the Ganges and the mountains forming a backdrop, the resort is the epitome of spirituality. Its serene environment is a perfect platform our group to make the transcendental journey into meditation. The resort has played host to the coveted ‘International Yoga Week’ several times in recent years, and continues to be a pivotal space for Yogic gurus to impart their teachings. Almost immediately on arrival you will begin to feel the abundance of spiritual energy, in the shadows of the Himalayan Mountains.

Rishikesh – known as the “City of the Divine”- is a spiritual center to which sages, rishis, saints and pilgrims have flocked for millennia. The roads of the city are lined with bustling market places of ethnic arts and handicrafts, fresh produce markets, holy shrines and orange-robed sadhus. Then, the road narrows, the markets become more sparse and you come upon a foot bridge, suspended high over the sacred Ganga river. As you cross this bridge, the sun streaming through the sacred Himalayas to warm your being, you will feel as if you have truly come home.

Our afternoon program will consist of leisurely strolling around and seeing the numerous ashrams that dot the banks of the Ganga. We will also take a walk to Ram Jhoola and Laxman Jhoola, the amazing suspension bridges over the holy Ganges river. ~ After breakfast it’s time to participate in yoga with one of the best Yoga Masters in all of Rishikesh, Yogi Ashish Sharma.

Afternoon participate in Satsang and Dyad Meditation Communication. What is this you ask?

The dyad process is explained to be a contemplation communication exercise for two people with a formal structure to enable effective communicating, listening and understanding each other. Thus it addresses very skillfully one of the most problematic interpersonal dilemmas in this day and age. Applying this technique  can bring clarity to relationship issues in your life, make it possible to talk about the seemingly impossible, and bring forth the trust and the courage to reveal yourself to the other. It has helped many to meet their true self,  to bridge the painful gap of separateness and move into union and oneness.

December 1, 2017

BabyTajAfter breakfast we drive to Agra. On arrival we will check into the Four Point By Sheraton Hotel. We chose this hotel because of it’s connivence, style and it’s just a few kilometres from the iconic Taj Mahal. Also because after a long the long day of sightseeing you will be able to go for a refreshing swim in the hotels rooftop pool.

Here’s a little history lesson on the city:

Two great Mughal monarchs, Akbar and Shah Jahan, transformed the little village of Agra into a befitting second capital of the Mughal Empire – giving it the name Dar-ul-Khilafat {seat of the Emperor}. Today a visitor to Agra is caught up in a world of contrasting edifices, of red sandstone and white marble, narrow galleys and quaint buggies, and that irresistible charm that this favorite city of the Mughals still retains. It is not surprising, that modern Agra still reflects its Mughal heritage most conspicuously.

Are you ready?

In the afternoon we will proceed for the sightseeing tour of the city. AGRA FORT – The red sandstone structure is surrounded by chahar-bagh, a four-square formal garden. Built by the famed Mughal emperor Akbar in 1565 AD, the fort is predominantly of red sandstone. Ensconced within is the picture perfect Pearl Mosque, which is a major tourist attraction. It lies on the bend of the river Yamuna, almost in the heart of the town. Akbar built it as his citadel over the years 1563-73 in the finest architectural style. It has imposing gates and walls of red sandstone and a moat.

After Agra Fort we will visit BABY TAJ or the ITMAD-UD-ULLAH – The interiors of which are considered better than the Taj Mahal. One of the most beautiful Mughal tombs, Itmad-Ud-Daulah’s Tomb was built by Nur Jahan, the Empress of Jehangir for her father in 1628. The tomb is a resting place of the powerful personality in Mughal Court, Itmad-Ud-Daulah, whose life is very interesting. Formerly a very poor Persian merchant then named Mirza Ghiyas or Ghiyas Beg he became a minister and a trusted treasure in Akbar’s court. After Akbar’s death in 1605, his son Jahangir rose into power. Jahangir made Ghiyas Beg his chief minister and honored him with the title of Itmad-Ud-Daulah, the Pillar of State. Later, Jahangir met a beautiful daughter of Ghiyas Beg named Mehr-Un-Nissa and married her. Mehr-Un-Nissa soon played a significant role in the Jahangir’s court and was called Nur Mahal, the light of the Place. Owing to her influence, her father and brother were granted with privileges in the court. When Ghiyas beg (Itmad-Un-Daulah) dies in 1622, Nur Mahal decided to build a mausoleum for him. Queen Mumtaz Mahal or the lady of the Taj was also from this prevailing family. The mausoleum is entirely made of white marble and graced with intricate decoration of inlay work, and marble-screen work belonging to the Islamic style. With its tranquil, small garden on the bank of Yamuna River, the tomb stands impressively elegant from a distance

After we will return to our hotel in Agra and rest up for an early morning start.

December 2, 2017

TajSmallToday be prepared to be amazed! We will visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise. Built by emperor Shah Jahan, the Taj is a white marble memorial to his beautiful wife Mumtaz Mahal. This monument took 22 years to be completed and was designed, and planned by Persian architect Ustad Isa. Apart from its stunning design balance and perfect symmetry, the Taj is also noted particularly for its elegant domes, intricately carved screens and some of the best inlay work ever seen.

Emperor Shah Jahan said of the Taj Mahal, “The sun and moon shed tears from their eyes.” This magnificent architectural wonder, often referred to as “poetry in form” attracts millions of visitors a year. Considered the most beautiful building in the world, the Taj Mahal is the true representation of our time in India as Shah Jahan built this monumental structure as a final resting place for his wife, the woman he loved more than anyone. It is the perfect last stop before heading home.

After breakfast, we will return to Delhi where we will then be transported to the airport for our trip onward home. After two full weeks of amazing experiences we will feel newly rejuvenated, balanced and happy individuals seeking our next adventure and chapter in life.

Keep in Mind:

The actual schedule of teachings and what we will be doing day to day is an outline only, and mostly we will be in the moment as the Tao prescribes. Every day will be a magical experience for all of us, so keep your heart and mind open to the experience life brings us. Due to the remote areas we are traveling to, weather, bad roads and other unseen obstacles may cause us to make changes in our itinerary.

On this spiritual journey our intent is to create sacred space where we can learn and share in group for the purpose of deepening our spiritual connections. The power of our teachings (please make sure you align with the group leader’s philosophy) and ceremonies comes from our combined energy and if group process does not interest you, then this trip would not be your best choice.

Level of Difficulty:

Beginners Level – The most strenuous exercise we will be doing would be walking or basic hiking, mostly on flat terrain. Basic Yoga / Chi Kung movement and swimming. So you don’t need to be in top fitness shape for this trip. However, it is recommended that you start regular walking to get prepared before the trip.

Terry’s Comment:

“I am immensely excited to share this retreat with you because I know it will change your life as it has mine. For those who know me,  I have traveled the world and have had life changing experience learning from other cultures, countries, and people.

What surprised me the most in my travels and continues to be the fuel that drives me forward is what I learned about myself. My outer journey sparked an unprecedented inner journey that allowed me to grow into a complete person. This has been such an amazing discovery that it felt wrong to keep it to myself. I had to share this with someone, anyone, everyone!

I would return from my journeys time an time again and share my stories of physical and spiritual travel only to have those I was speaking with listen to me, but not hear me. I realized that talk wasn’t going to do it, If I wanted people to really understand and reap benefits and spiritual wisdom… they would have to make the journey with me!

That was it! I was the key, and I knew I had to bring these people to fulfillment… literally.”

Ashish Sharma – Yogi (teacher)

Ashish Sharma has been practicing hatha yoga since the age of 14 under the guidance of numerous yoga teachers, yet he admits that his first and foremost teacher is his brother Pankaj Sharma, an internationally renowned yoga master. Ashish has been leading classes since 2007, and he has many students coming to Rishikesh every year to learn yoga exclusively from him. Ashish is, probably, one of the best yoga teachers in Rishikesh.

Ashish teaches hatha yoga with special attention on body alignment and asana geometry. Having a deep understanding of biomechanics of the body, he is an excellent teacher to give comprehension of how body should work in each pose. Ashish pays special attention to people with spine and joint problems, he has vast background in yoga therapy. In every class, he gives true revelations on healthy engagements of muscles to avoid injuries and what you can do to optimize the effect.

His classes are the great to go deeper into the body and gain control of the most subtlest and deepest muscles. His teaching helps you gain the state of very subtle concentration, without excessive effort, effects of which students feel long after the class has finished. Ashish possesses a unique blend of professional strictness with compassionate softness and good sense of humor, which makes his classes highly effective and energetically balanced.
